How can one combine technology and smoking to bring about an innovation. Its smoking, but without the smoke. So here we have a cigarette that’s less riskier than smoking a normal one. The Electronic Cigarette, popularly known as the E- Cigarette.
The first generation of e-cigarettes as we know them today was developed by a Chinese pharmacist, Hon Lik, in 2003 and patented soon thereafter. They were first introduced into the Chinese market in 2004 and reached the international market by 2006.
Unlike traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes have a battery and a switch. Depending on the model, the switch is activated by a pushing a button or simply inhaling through the device. The switch connects to a coil that turns a nicotine-infused liquid into a vapor, which the user inhales. E-cig users inhale vapor created when a battery-powered tube heats a liquid nicotine solution, giving them a hit without burning or smoke.
So now smokers have a healthy option to opt, but don’t forget that its not completely free of toxics. There are still studies being carried out on the level of damage that they may induce in the human body. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not regulate e-cigarettes unless the product manufacturer makes a therapeutic claim. Because of which certain countries have put a ban on its sale and many have allowed the sale of the same, but regulated with with their own terms and conditions. Such as U.S. airlines don’t allow the devices, and Boston and Seattle are among cities that have added the products to their smoking bans.
E-cigarettes are projected to be a $10 billion industry by 2017, according to a Buisnessweek report. (http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-06-20/big-tobacco-vs-dot-small-players-as-e-cigarette-smoke-off-begins#r=hpt-fs). Following the success of several best electronic cigarette brands, several new players have jumped into the fray. The level of innovation with a portfolio of more than at least five flavors is considered to be some of the factors responsible for success of best e cigarette.
E-cigarettes are thought to be less carcinogenic than regular cigarettes because they are non-combustible and do not contain tar. Smokers who are trying to kick their habit of smoking or at least reduce health risks, this device appeared to provide a desirable way, allowing them to get their nicotine fixes while avoiding most of the health risks commonly associated with smoking.
So smokers, thank technology where there’s no tar or smoke, and you don’t need a lighter or an ashtray. But always remember, its still not the best option for good healthy lungs as compared to no smoking at any given day.
